Who are we?
Founded by students at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2009, the Global Health Interest Group (GHIG) promotes the field of global health within the Johns Hopkins medical community while providing a community for medical students with global interests. GHIG seeks to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue by engaging global health leaders to speak with students on a variety of topics, organizing a public health selective and online blog, and partnering with the many schools at Hopkins (and beyond) that are actively involved in global health research and initiatives. Through these efforts, GHIG hopes to provide resources and opportunities for students to connect with potential mentors, delve deeper into global health issues beyond the regular curriculum, and ultimately develop a career that is global in focus.
This blog will track our adventures as we travel, host opinion pieces on various issues relevant to global health, and serve as a clearinghouse for information and debate.

Anatomically, “atlas and axis” are the topmost vertebrae connecting the skull and the spine, named for Atlas of yore, who supported the globe on his shoulders.
