Play on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Hi Everyone -

It seems as if this blog has been pretty quiet recently!  I hope this helps to start things off again.

Just wanted to bring this to your attention: the Fell’s Point Corner Theatre (251 South Ann Street, Baltimore, MD 21231) is currently running the show Ruined on conflict in the DRC.

You can find more information here: http://www.fpct.org/shows/ruined/

Thank you – have a great weekend!

Congo Awareness Week

Hi All,

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Although you have probably seen my e-mails already, I just wanted to remind you that this week is International Congo Week (http://www.congoweek.org/), and to give you a bit more information than was sent out in the e-mails.

If you would like to learn more about the DRC, I am the “student” (see below) giving the talk tonight in Nathans College at the SOM. It will be a fairly informal talk covering my experiences in the DRC this summer and some general information about the country (informal = great time to ask questions!). FYI: there will be refreshments at this event.

The best talk (so if you are busy and have to choose which to go to), however, will be Tuesday night (see below) regarding the next steps for the DRC in the context of the presidential elections to be held next year. Dinner will be provided at that event, so I definitely hope to see you all there!

Finally, if you are interested in getting involved, please let me know (mrybarc1@jhmi.edu). Our student group is called the Bukavu Action Team, and we would love to have you join!

Thank you!

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Hi Everyone,

Success! (= despite my technological ineptitude, I have finally been added as an author to this blog and will be able to post = thank you Lakshmi!).

To start with:

For those who have been wanting to hear about my time in the Democratic Republic of Congo this summer:

http://drcmrmd.wordpress.com/

(Disclaimer: I am not a very experienced blogger yet, and this blog is still a work in progress = even though I have been back in the US for over a month now, I am still mentally processing my experience in the DRC = so please leave feedback, your thoughts, etc. – I would love to hear them!).

Thanks everyone – I am definitely looking forward to being involved in some great exchanges on this blog this year!
